Food, Farming & Telling Your Story

Join us on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 7:00pm as we dive into telling your story and agri-business online.

The panel will feature these 4 incredible women:

Karen Anderson

Karen founded Alberta Food Tours in 2006. Their mission is to improve the health of soil, food and people. We do that through the power of storytelling and connection.

Before the pandemic, they had eight different in-person guided food tours spread over Calgary, Canmore, Banff and Edmonton and employed 20 people.

Since the pandemic affected tourism so drastically, they  went back to our "why" and came up with other ways to accomplish it. They innovated a self-guided gamified food tour that people play on their mobile device in Calgary, Canmore and soon - the Yellowhead Highway between Edmonton and Jasper. They started an online store called the Eat Alberta First store where we sell Alberta Cares Packages filled with Alberta-made non-perishable foods.

Beyond Alberta Food Tours, Karen wrote a book called Food Artisans of Alberta - Your Trail Guide to the Best of our Locally Crafted Fare a few years ago. I'm currently working on a follow up cookbook called Eat Alberta First. It will be released in April of 2023.

She has written for radio and had three different columns on the CBC. I guided and helped with a PBS TV documentary on Alberta's Culture and Cuisine. She's written for magazines like WestJet, City Palate, Culinaire, Avenue and for newspapers like the Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald and Ottawa Citizen. Karen co-authored a Taste Canada Silver Medal cookbook with her late mentor Noorbanu Nimji called A Spicy Touch. She has led cuisine and culture trips around Alberta and to Thailand and India (7 times) as well.
